An open letter to my friend, Amy

First of all, I miss you. Terribly. Second of all, can we plan a girl date for Super Bowl weekend? It's been a long 6 months without you, dear friend. Ok, so. I have something to admit to you, and I figured that it would be easier to do it publicly because, well, I'm scared. And I figure some people might come to my rescue. So...here goes.
So one thing we always sided with each other on were our precious Droids. I enjoyed our many conversations about those lunatics who would stand in line for a super expensive phone, that didn't come with insurance, that is like a car and outdated the minute you take it out of the store, that wasn't even 4G and that was really just a fad. Crazy iPhone band-wagoners that loved the iPhone just because it was "cool" when it wasn't the least bit better than our phones. I mean, what could the iPhone do (OK we admittedly agreed that not being able to use voice and data at the same time kinda sucked) that the Android platform couldn't? Not to mention our Verizon coverage was better AND that helicopter glass cover had no match to the "oops I left my phone on my lap when I got out of the car and it hit the ground". Or, frankly, the Jason Thomas's of the world.

As you know I've been through my fair share of phones. I had 6 Motorola Q's, 4 Droid Eris' and NOW my Droid 2, which I was given from Verizon because they felt so sorry for me, won't let me type. At all. I have all but cleared my phone, and it still won't work. So, needless to say I got fed up and went to Verizon last week. I was already frustrated enough (but soooo nice to the sales guy who was ironically born right outside my home town and grew up in Carmel), but when he said, "yeah that's a common problem with that phone" I nearly lost it. As calmly as I could, all I said was, "of course it is". At least he was honest with me when I asked if wiping it clean (the only possible treatment) would really work. He said, "probably not". OK. Is it too much to ask to get a freaking phone from Verizon that works?! I know, I know. I'm IN LOVE with the phone with I first get it, but never has a phone from them lasted more than a year. I let him show me newest Droids, but when he had to say, "they took a lot time to make these" I hit my breaking point. Shouldn't that always be the case? I know every phone has their glitches, but every smart phone I've had from them has had problems with basic functions. I guess it is too much to ask to be able to call and type.

I tell you that story to tell you this.

(palms sweating as I type)

I bought the iPhone.

(pause for reaction)

The look of disappointed on your face that I can feel through this computer is, well, warranted. I fought and fought for years for the Droid to be superior. I was thrilled when the number of AOS users passes IOS. And, frankly, it's not the operating system. I like it. There isn't anything I feel like I'm missing. I JUST CAN'T TAKE THE CRAPPY PHONES!

So, I'm sticking with Verizon because I feel like they have better coverage, but I had to try a new device. If in a year I'm bitching about the iPhone, you will be the first I call to tell me, "I told you so you band-wagon  Appler". I'm not saying I won't ever give a Droid a chance again, but I pray to God that I'm not making that decision a year from now like I have since 2006.

Until then, I hope you will still play me on WWF (hard to play when you can't type anything), you enjoy all my instagram mobile uploads, and you don't delete me from your FB newsfeed because of the "via Facebook for iPhone" updates.

I hope you will still be my friend.

PS I do have 14 days (starting tomorrow) to change my mind...
