B's dad play college hockey, so he grew up around it. Like I said, we don't really follow much hockey in the Hoosier state, but I'm slowly learning. I have been to a couple Indiana Ice games, as well as a couple in Cincinnati, but no one ever took the time to explain what was going on. It's a really fast sport to keep up with! Between the tiny, little puck, the substitutions, the penalties, etc. it's non-stop action. I don't really understand the strategy behind the game quite yet, but I'm at least starting to pick up the rules.
My favorite rule (obviously) is that they let you fight until someone hits the ice! For the ladies, I did learn a little something about hockey attire. There's a strap that attaches the jersey to your pants so someone can't pull it over your head in a fight! I feel sorry for the last guy before they added that little accessory...
I had been to a Blackhawks game before, but we were with B's whole family celebrating his dad's bday. Let's just say that my end of the row drank more than we watched. This was the first time I actually followed along. I'll stick by my many previous claims that the atmosphere of a sporting event is oftentimes more exciting than the actual game (especially when the home team is good). The United Center was an awesome place to be Saturday night.
From the ROAR (best National Anthem ever) to the eruption (and subsequent dancing) of the arena after they score, the atmosphere at a Blackhawks game is incredible.
The night ended with B taking charge to get us cabs. Typical B fashion, he negotiates with a limo driver, so we rode home in style :).
What a great way to spend a Saturday night. Go Hawks!
